City Council OKs funding change for nonprofits outside budget cycle

(RECAP: On Monday, the Charlottesville City Council approved changes to a policy that limits how much money the city can give to nonprofits and community agencies outside of a yearly application process that is part of the annual budget development process. Brandon Collins, an organizer with the Public Housing Association of Residents, said the funding would pay for the salaries of housing residents who apply for the pilot program, which is being established in partnership with PHAR, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville, Piedmont Virginia Community College and the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority. The pilot program is expected to start with the repair of 20 public housing units that the housing authority recently deemed uninhabitable.)
