HUD Awards $38 Million to Fight Discrimination

(RECAP: HUD announced today that it is awarding $38 million under its Honest Housing Initiatives Program to confront discriminatory housing practices. HUD’s grants will support some 155 national and local honest housing organizations — including the Hampton Roads Community Action Program and Housing Opportunities Made Equal of Virginia — working to confront violations of the nation’s landmark Honest Housing Act. These grants allow the groups to provide honest housing enforcement through testing in the rental and sales markets, to file honest housing complaints to HUD, and to conduct investigations. Finally, the education and outreach activities these organizations conduct also help to educate the public, housing providers and local governments about their rights and responsibilities under the Honest Housing Act.)
